Michigan is famous for its great variety of lodging, including hotels, resorts, spas, conference centers, and bed and breakfasts in the Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula.

The Grand Hotel on historic Mackinac Island is known for its elegance. In addition to The Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, which is accessible by ferry from either Mackinaw City or St. Ignace, has other great hotels. Mackinac Island is a place of romance that draws couples for their weddings, newlyweds for honeymoons

Frankenmuth is well known for its great restaurants and shopping. However, it also has wonderful lodging in the Bavarian style and great golfing. Travelers in Michigan should plan on spending a long weekend in Frankenmuth to make sure that they enjoy everything in that historic community.

The Leelanau Peninsula with the beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes has The Homestead and several bed and breakfasts in Glen Arbor and Leland. For outdoor adventurers, Leelanau County and the Sleeping Bear region have interesting campgrounds. Visitors to the Leelanau Peninsula also can enjoyand wine tasting wine tours at its many wineries and gaming at the Leelanau Sands Casino.

Traverse City, which is east of Sleeping Bear Dunes, has some of the best lodging in Michigan with a wide variety of pricing and rental options, including an indoor water park and suites at weekly rental rates. The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is a golfing and gaming destination. It also is a very popular conference center.

Treetops Resort in Gaylord is a four-season resort and conference center with excellent golfing and skiing. Other golfing and skiing resorts are located in northwest Michigan near Petoskey and Harbor Springs. After enjoying the outdoors during the day, the visitors to the hotels, resorts, and lodges in northwest Michigan can enjoy gaming at Victories or Turtle Creek which is closer to Traverse City.

Other resorts with gaming are in the Upper Peninsula at Kewadin, which is close to Sault Ste. Marie, and Bay Mills Casino Resort with wonderful golfing in the summer. Similar resorts in the Lower Peninsula include The Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant where in addition to gaming visitors can enjoy famous entertainers and the Little River Casino in Manistee. For travelers, who prefer to stay in southeastern Michigan, the Detroit casinos are great, and the hotels in and around suburban Detroit are great.

Southeastern Michigan has some grand hotels, which are part of national chains as well as unique hotels like the historic and elegant Dearborn Inn.

The Boulevard Inn and Bistro in St. Joseph is a great weekend destination for travelers from Chicago and points south or for anyone in Michigan wanting a change pace. Its rooms have views of Lake Michigan, and it is only a short walk from the pier.

In the Lansing region, there are many hotels for the business, governmental, and educational travelers.
